Fall. I did not realize until this past week how much I liked Fall. I love seeing the leaves change colors. I love sweatshirt and flannel weather. I love carving pumpkins and drinking hot apple cider. I love going on walks to enjoy the crisp, cool air. I love Fall, and it's almost here!
But more so than Fall itself, I think what I love most is living in a place that experiences all four seasons. If it was Fall all year long, I would get tired of that. The joy and excitement, for me, comes with the change of seasons.
Change is often not welcomed in most of our lives. Some change is hard and painful. Some change is exciting and unpredictable. But change is inevitable. Will we embrace it?
As I have been thinking about change lately, I have been reminded of the truth that God remains the same. In the midst of the chaos and the unknown that often accompanies our lives, God is constant. Hebrews 13:8 says, "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever." This is the God that we are to be ROOTED in. He is our firm foundation, the one we can lean on and cling to in times of change.
How do we grow in our relationship with this God? How do we get to know him? One key way is by spending time with him in his Word. This month we continue our Rooted theme by looking at being "Rooted in God's Word." God has given us his very words, and invites us to meet with him in Scripture. Yet so often, our Bibles do nothing more than sit on a shelf. Throughout the month, we will be exploring WHY we should be rooted in God's Word, as well as giving students practical tools to know HOW to read the Bible.
As parents, you are the primary influencers in your child's life. Are you modeling what it looks like to be Rooted in God's Word in your home? I encourage you to do so!
